Lowering the Temperature

You cannot resolve a conflict at the temperature it was raised. Your first move is thermal, not verbal. Any attempt to reason with a hot exchange while the exchange is still hot is either ignored, misinterpreted, or added to the list of grievances being accumulated in real time.
